thanks for visiting!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07663658267679134621noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8255086668005111843.post-89010243268777998252014-02-25T14:43:00.000-05:002014-10-20T22:51:40.425-04:00A Long Overdue UpdateI want to apologize for lack of updates. i create, and then i don't keep my site updated. In the meantime, since i last updated the site, i have made many shawls, wraps, scarves, and amigurumi -- quite a bit of them for the HollyDays.

To make up for my lack of updates, I will offer to those visiting this site a link to My Project Page on Ravelry. This page has all of my FOs (or Finished Objects) i have made. The pictures on the left side can be clicked on to see the full picture of the item. so if the items say "by J" or "by M" after them - these are FOs the girls made.

also on these pages are the names of the patterns i used, and you can highlight them and search for the pattern online. in many of the cases, the patterns are available online. (some of them, however, you can only access if you have a Ravelry account.)

feel free to leave me a comment on this post about any of the FOs, any questions... and thanks for visiting!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07663658267679134621noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8255086668005111843.post-4140308399787374162013-05-20T13:46:00.000-04:002013-05-20T13:46:09.090-04:00Third Time's A Charmthey say the the third time's a charm, and that's the truth. i've had it happen twice so far with yarn and the projects they turned into.

#1
i had some fuzzy black Rainbow boucle yarn that wanted to make a wrap with. first i tried the crochet version of the Wingspan (it's a Ravelry download). but the yarn was so fuzzy, i had to diligently count and keep track of every single stitch - no thanks!

so next i tried the Snowdrop wrap, which i'd made before. nope, still couldn't really see the stitches, so that wasn't the right wrap for the yarn either.

finally i decided to just make my own again, and used a variation of my own Shoulder Wrap i made last year. i first chained 251, for 250 hdcs across for my first row, and realised that was going to be huge, so i took it down to 200. from there, row 2 was to ch1, hdc across, creating a mesh. row 3, i worked it so i would hdc into the space, and separate the stitches with a ch1. sometimes a the beginning of the row, i would chain 2 and then hdc into the space, or i'd ch1 and hdc into the first stitch, and create the hdc-into-the-ch1-space that way. when i got to 25 rows, i decreased each row in the first two and last two stitches, and worked that way for another 25 rows and then called it done.

here's the result~ and it's fuzzy and comfortable too!

#2
i wanted to make the Wingspan since i saw it. i like the asymmetricalness of the wrap, it calls for all single crochet stitches, and it's a rather simple pattern to master. first i tried it with some wool yarn, but that was making the fabric too stiff. i wondered about using hdcs instead?

i found a yarn that would have made a wonderful fabric - but you've already read that story above.

after some more searching, i discovered Jo-Ann's Sensations Breeze yarn, it's soft, thin, and made a nice drapey fabric! it was like it was perfect. and as i've said, sometimes the yarn picks the pattern. i bought two skeins, and started a different wrap on one skein, but then after several rows, i got curious and started the Wingspan on the other.

and several rows after that, it became clear the Breeze yarn wanted to be made into the Wingspan. my own version had seven wings, and the first and odd-numbered wings were made with the hdcs i'd wondered about (obviously, it worked out wonderfully). the second and even-numbered wings were made with the single crochets. it created some symmetry to an asymmetrical wrap.

i made this guy for for my friend, since she's a huge Phillies fan, and then i got the idea to make on for her mom too. i wrote the pattern, but hesitated posting it -- i used the base from another pattern (attributed at the end) and it's a licensed product. so, here's my version of the Phanatic, for free. i'm not making any money off of him; and please don't sell the pattern either.

also, this pattern has not been tested. please feel free to let me know of any corrections or typos by leaving a comment, or PMing me (trystan830) on ravelry.

i have no idea what i’m going to do with the panel. maybe make lots more and put them together for a blanket or something.

since i have a tablet that runs Android, i made a Droid, cause they're just so cute!

M likes Harry Potter, so i tried my hand at a Hedwig:

Both girls got a tablet for xmas, and they found an addictive game (Cut the Rope) with a cute character, Om Nom. so found a pattern, made one for each of 'em.

M and I have seen all the Ice Age movies, and while i enjoy all the characters, i like Sid and Scrat just a little bit more. (and Diego's voice.*wink*) So i went on a hunt, and found a Scrat pattern over on Great Grey Crochet. and i found his acorn there as well.

i made this for my daughter M (“Meg”) and when she gets silly and glomps someone, we say they have a 1-Meg attachment. and when she gets grumpy, she gets grumpy. so, yeah.

also, i translated the pattern from knitting, but the original is a Grumpasaurus by Kat Lewinski.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07663658267679134621noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8255086668005111843.post-48500078321022241532013-03-11T21:05:00.003-04:002013-03-11T21:05:33.741-04:00Remote CozyOur couch liked eating our remotes, so i used up some stash yarn to make a cozy that drapes over the back of the couch. and now our couch is very hungry, since we don't feed it the remotes any more....

i just finished a Mobius wrap. it worked up rather interesting, as after a few rounds i no longer joined the rounds, but just made it a huge spiral. and when i'd gone around one full time, i was actually opposite where i started, according to my green and orange stitch markers. it was an interesting, very neat learning experience. and again, my panther is showing it off.

i also made a petal wrap. this is out of Loops & Charisma, and is very warm and cozy.
i made this hat after i tried making one from a pattern i found online. but either it was my yarn, or my doing double crochets instead of the single crochets called for in the pattern, i couldn’t get the first few rows to lay flat…. so i tweaked it a little, and used the original pattern as a guide as to how the rows should go. please enjoy making this hat, for yourself or others, free or paid; but please do not sell the pattern.

*K hook
*chunky yarn, i used weight 6.
*worked in spirals, and rounds are not joined, use a stitch marker to keep track if you need to.
*US terminology
*BLO = Back Loop Only, FLO = Front Loop Only
MR = Magic Ring. there is a great vid tutorial at Planet June.

1. dc 8 into MR - your chain doesn’t count as a stitch. Close the ring with 1 sc, then dc into the same stitch. (9)
BLO for Rounds 2-9.
2. 2dc in each around (18)
3. 2dc in each around (36)
4. *dc in next 2, 2dc* 12 times (48)
5. dc around (48)
6. *dc in next 5, 2dc* 8 times (56)
7-9. dc around (56) (if you want to make a longer hat, add more rows here.)
10. FLO: *dc in next 1, 2dc* around (84)
11. Both Loops: *dc in next 6, 2dc* around (96)
12. hdc in first, sc around (96)
13. sc in next 3 or 4 stitches before sl st in next and finishing off.

this of course is made to fit my head. you could add another increase round after Row 6 if need be, and then adjust the rows and stitch counts accordingly.

this pattern has not been tested. please feel free to let me know of any corrections or typos by leaving a comment, or PMing me (trystan830) on ravelry.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07663658267679134621noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8255086668005111843.post-29765243997542902652012-09-14T21:34:00.000-04:002013-03-11T21:42:02.311-04:00it's beginning to look a lot like... this guy worked up real quick and easy, i thought i'd share the pattern with everyone. there's also a variant at the bottom. ;) please enjoy making my Ghosties, for yourself or others, free or paid; but please do not sell the pattern.

Materials:
*white yarn. these Ghosties were made with Loops & Threads Impeccable White, weight “4.” They are about 7mm tall.
*crochet hook. I used Crochet Dude/Boye “E” hook, 3.5 mm. A larger hook will make a larger Ghostie.
*Tapestry or other blunt needle
*a small amount of black felt for the eyes
*hot glue & gun

Techniques used - note: this pattern uses US terminology:
single crochet, double crochet, slip stitch, increase, decrease, Back Loop Only, magic/adjustable ring/circle

Notes:
*This pattern is worked in a spiral, without joining rounds. Use a stitch marker to mark either the first or last stitch, whichever is your preference. This pattern is also worked from the bottom up.
*Gauge is irrelevant.
*as you work the pattern, sometimes the first stitch seems to “move.” when this happens, I just sc in the next stitch(es) until it’s lined up again. You can see the beginning of the spiral in this picture:

this is the stitch I use to line up the rows with. once row 6 (BLO) is completed, you have another visual with which you can line up the first stitch of each row. These re-alignment stitches are optional, and don’t change the number of stitches in their row.

Main Body: (I prefer to mark the first stitch of each round with a stitch marker.)
1. 6 sc in magic ring
2. inc in each st around (12)
3. (sc in next, inc in next sc) around (18)
4. (sc in next 2 sc, inc) around (24)
5. (sc in next 3 sc, inc) around (30)
6. In BLO, sc in each around (30)
7-13. sc in each sc around (30)
14. (sc in next 3 sc, dec*) around (24)
15. sc in each sc around (24)
16. (sc in next 2 sc, dec*) (18)
17. sc in each sc around (18) I started stuffing here.
18. sc, dec* (12) and finished stuffing here.
19. dec* (6)
20. sl st in next stitch and finish off. leave a length of yarn to close up the hole. I use what i call the “drawstring method” - weaving the length of yarn through every other hole in row 19 and then drawing it closed. Hide end in ghostie.

*the decrease can be any variation of sc2tog or an invisible decrease.

Bottom Edge:
*Go back to row 6, where the back loops were worked and now work in the visible front loops.
*Starting in the back with the head facing you, pull up a loop through the first stitch, ch 1, sc in same stitch, 2 dc in next stitch, sc in next stitch, (sc in next sc, 2 dc in next sc, sc in next sc) around (40)
i decided to give her her presents a few days before her birthday & party (which were on the same day). first up, was another Castiel. many times, she tried taking my Castiel up to her bed room with all her other crochet toys... so i made her one of her own:

M participated in a 4-week Summer Music camp, and really long story short, i dropped her off at a friend's in the morning and picked her up at the same friend's in the afternoon. so as a gift at the end of the summer, i made a dog that resembled the friend's dog, Goldie.
